Always ask for evidence from Qur’an and authentic Hadiths

(The righteous people of cave said) “These our people have taken for worship gods other than Him (Allah): why do they not bring forward an authority clear (and convincing) for what they do? And who is more in the wrong than he who fabricates falsehood against Allah (God)?” (Qur’an 18:15)

Allah has revealed Qur’an with truth and for the guidance of mankind. Similarly he has made the life of Prophet Muhammad (sas) an example to follow (see Qur’an 33:21). Thus Allah mentions:-

O you who believe! obey Allah and obey the Messenger [Muhammad (sas)], and (conditionally) those of you (Muslims) who are in authority. (And) if you differ in anything amongst yourselves, refer it to Allah and His Messenger, if you believe in Allah and in the Last Day. That is better and more suitable for final determination. (Qur’an 4:59)

This ayah of Qur’an clearly states that it is the responsibility of every believing man or woman (Muslims) to strictly obey Allah and His Messenger (sas) and those people in authority who themselves obey Allah and His messenger (sas) and if at all there is a difference of opinion it must be settled strictly in the light of Qur’an [referring to Allah] and authentic Hadiths [referring to Messenger (sas)].

It is a common observance that people ask questions to those whom they see as knowledgeable and seek answers without asking for evidences from Qur’an and authentic Hadiths of Muhammad (sas). Allah mentions in Qur’an:-
They (Jews and Christians) took their rabbis and their monks to be their lords besides Allâh, and Messiah, son of Maryam, while they (Jews and Christians) were commanded to worship none but One Ilâh (God – Allâh) Lâ ilâha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He). Praise and glory be to Him (far above is He) from having the partners they associate (with Him). (Qur’an 9:31)

Adi bin Hatim (ra) (who converted from Christianity to Islam) heard Prophet Muhammad (sas) recite this verse and then [Prophet (sas)] saying,” They (Jews and Christians) did not worship them (Rabbis and Monks), but if they made anything lawful for them, they adopted it as lawful. And when they made anything unlawful, they adopted it as unlawful for themselves”.
[This Hadith is classified as Hasan and Gharib in Tirmidhi], [Ref: Sunan al-Tirmidhi, Book of Exegesis of the Qur’an (Tafsir), Surah Al-Taubah]

Shaikh Abdur-Rahman Ibn Hasan said, “In this Hadeeth, is a proof that obedience to monks and rabbis (so called knowledgeable people) while disobeying Allah is worshiping them other than Allah, and it is Major Shirk which Allah does not forgive”

Thus, Allah has forbidden making things halal and haram without a proof from the Qur’an and the Sunnah. He has informed us that it is a lie against Allah just like He informed us that he, who makes something obligatory or forbidden without a proof has made himself a partner with Allah in something that is special of Him Alone. Allah says, ‘Or have they partners with Allah (false gods), who have instituted for them a religion which Allah has not allowed…’ [Qur’an 42: 21]

So brothers and sisters, clear your doubts regarding Islam from people of knowledge. Indeed it is the way of companions of Muhammad (sas) to clear doubts regarding Islam. But ask for evidences from Quran and authentic Hadiths (Saheeh Hadiths) because blind following may lead to Shirk; the unpardonable sin.
