Was Islam spread by Force?

Recently, the newspapers and internet have been buzzing with reports of growing number of people converting to Islam, and young white women leading the stats. However, the general perception of most people is that Islam has always spread in different parts of the world only by force and use of sword. This article aims at clearing the completely baseless myth of Islam having spread by force.
